one guy who seems to reconcile the light and darkness is David Lynch, of course.
i just came across his latest foray into music video. "..and then we all ran around the backyard..."
the other week with some friends and I stopped by at his opening, hoping to catch a glimpse of his cardigan, but David was behind a door of the gallery office, the space was musty hot and full of people with gleaming eyes. i have already seen his art work in paris, about 4 years back he had a retrospective i forget the venue. at the opening night, in pouring rain, the dedicated fans had to line up for 2 hours, even with an invite, it was a phenomena to see all fashion and art people dressed to the nines and soaking wet, a sort of thing you see happening for rockstars more so then in art world.
it was mildly bewildering when he launched a huge campaign of Transcendental Meditation, confusing to think of literally -- how the two can co-exist in one person, his call for enlightenment seem to have no effect on how disturbing and dark his work has been.
i think of it as self-exorcism.
